Holiday deadlines and general information

It's almost the end of August, and I'm preparing for the holiday madness! Here's what you need to know:

To receive your order of portraits and cards by December 20, orders must be placed, paid for, and have all things finalized by Monday, November 20. This includes having ALL custom designs, holiday cards, etc. Completely finalized by this date. Orders from October through the end of the year may have a slightly longer turn around than the standard 2-3 weeks. It may take up to 4 weeks to receive your portraits.

Specialty Items: Pendants, photo purses, ornaments, and canvases MUST BE ORDERED earlier. The deadline to receive these items by December 24th is November 10. The deadline to receive coffee table books by December 24th is November 1, and again- ALL things must be finalized by that date. Due to the attention, time, and detail that these specialty items demand, they take longer to produce.

I can not stress these things enough. When the time comes, there is often an issue with needing some items rushed. I understand, and will try my best to work with those issues but I absolutely can not guarantee on-time arrival before the holiday if these deadlines are not met.

October and November, and part of December, I expect to go a little overboard and will conduct more sessions during the months of October and November, and 3 per week for the first two weeks of December (keeping in mind that these last clients of the year are not guaranteed their portraits by Christmas.)

I love my photography. I adore the children and families I get to work with. My own children are 2, 4, 6, and 8, so limiting the portrait sessions that I take on for now- is something that I choose to do for them.

I can be reached at 512-763-1868 or stephanie@familyphotosbystephanie.com to set up your session.

A little more info on the October mini-sessions

Since I have been getting a lot of questions about the mini-sessions, I thought I would put some more information about them here.

Every Saturday in the month of October, I will be doing limited mini-sessions. The session fee for these will be $40 (half price) and you will recieve a 20-30 minute session and 10-12 finished images in your online gallery. Each Saturday will have a different theme. The Berry Springs park and the Pumpkin Patch are, of course, outside locations. The 'Studio style' with the swirly backdrop and the christmas theme will be done in one location in Georgetown.

* With these sessions I will offer some specially priced packages and bulk print pricing on small prints when you order 15 or more of the same image.

Please feel free to contact me for more information on these specials.

What to wear.

This is a question I get asked quite often. Here are a few guidelines.

My motto in clothing is this: simple goes a long way! I like to keep the focus on the subject; therefore, simple clothing choices are best for creating timeless portraits.
I suggest loose fitting solid colors, avoiding busy patterns or logos/words. Blue's Clues is cute for playtime, but can look out of place for your child's portraits. Jeans, overalls, sun/slip dresses; khakis are classics and photograph well. Consider dressing in the color white sparingly, for this color often reflects light strongly.

Hats can also be very effective. If children are being photographed together, clothes that are similar in style give a more coordinated look. Bare feet are especially fun, and kids love it too.

Bare skin is my favorites on newborns and babies. You may have other clothes, but keep in mind; baby may get grouchy when there are too many clothing changes.
I suggest bringing a few outfits that you are considering and allowing me to help you make the final choice on what would best suit the look and feel you are going for in your child's portraits. I also have on hand a few items such as dresses and tutus that you are welcome to incorporate into the session.

A Trendy Look

Let's say, however, you want a trendier look for your child. Well then things change a bit! I love the timeless looks in the clothing mentioned above, but also enjoy photographing a session with a more "hip" feel to it. I still caution against bold logos or cartoon characters on clothing. Again, I highly suggest bringing a few outfit choices and allowing me to help you come to a decision on which outfits will bring together the best look for your child.

Please let me know ahead of time if you'd like to try for a trendier look, or a more classic look, or even both! For in studio, I use paper backdrops for trendy sessions, so knowing ahead of time helps me prepare for your session.

Family Sessions

Family photographs are special, a legacy of whom your family was for future generations to enjoy. Clothing choices are just as important for family sessions, as other sessions. I highly suggest clothing for each family member that has the same tone, not necessarily color. Please be wary of stripes, plaid, words and logos on your family's clothing. These things can be a distraction from your beautiful family. Oh, and bare feet are great for family sessions too!

In conclusion, clothing choices are important. As your photographer, I want you to see whom your child is, and not just what outfit they were wearing. Clothing should compliment your child’s look, not complicate it.

Please contact me for further questions on clothing.

Sisters

How gorgeous are these girls? And those eyes? Oh, to die for.

New backdrop

Here's the new Babycakes backdrop from Background artistry. It's beautiful and perfect for classic looking portraits. This backdrop looks best with solid, simple clothing. And, it looks stunning in black and white.
